Cheerleading

Annie was really excited to do a cheerleading clinic with the high school cheerleaders. She went one evening for a couple hours to learn cheers and jumps and other spirited things. It was really cute. Each of the little girls got paired up with a JV or varsity cheerleader to help them learn the cheers. They taught them jumps and how to stand slightly pyramid style. I stayed the whole time to watch because I was a little nervous to leave her there (first kid!). I am a total stranger to the world of cheering, so it was interesting. The only questionable moments were caused by Evie screaming. And once when one of the girls was saying how a cheerleader needs to be smiling. She then said, "Hands on hips, smile on lips, spirit in your heart, let's start!" And I had to try really, really, really hard to not laugh out loud. I had to pretend Kate said something funny. I'm sorry cheerleaders of the world, but that is just too much for me.

Anyway, a few days later, they cheered during the first half of the JV football game. Annie LOVED it.

Annie and her sweet partner Kendall.
(She wouldn't let me do anything to her hair. She missed the memo that cheerleaders like giant hair bows).

Annie is in the front, third from the right. It was hard to get this picture being up in the bleachers with so many people taking pictures!

She was so happy!

She even got a turn with Kendall's pom poms!

Despite cheerleading not exactly being my thing, it really is amazing to watch your kid do something they are really excited about and have a lot of fun. Annie had such a great time, and I was really proud of her for going out there and being enthusiastic and doing her best.
