Yep, She's Ours

Even before Matt and I had kids, we knew they were in trouble. For a lot of reasons, but one being the fact that we are both rather competitive. Even over the silliest things. Especially over the silliest things. We wondered if our kids would be super competitive. Or, even worse, not at all! :) Well, Annie has answered that question.

The girls' swim school periodically hands out progress reports. Last week, two things happened. Annie got a progress report and she noticed a little boy handing his in to the girls at the desk. He was moving on to the next level. She wanted to know why she wasn't moving on. (This kid was not in her class; we didn't even know him!) I explained what the report was and she immediately demanded to know what she couldn't do. I tried to focus on what she could do, but she wanted none of that. In fact, she was pissed off. I mentioned a skill that wasn't checked off, and she yelled, "What?! I can do that!!" When I suggested maybe she didn't meet the 10 foot criteria for the skill (lots of the skills require certain distance or time or whatever. I don't know; I don't know swim stuff), she was not pleased.

Fast forward to this week, on the way to lessons in the car. She said, "Mom! I'm going to do EVERYTHING for 10 feet this week!" She remembered! She was still angry!

I probably should have seen it coming. Annie was adamant she got robbed the previous week. And sure enough, that night the instructor handed me a new report and told Annie she would be moving on to the next level next week.

So, here we go, I guess...
