Yesterday, the girls and I went to Target to get, among other things, some new toy Cars (from the movie) for Annie. I guess Kate wanted some, too, because she kept leaning out of the cart to grab some off the shelves. So much so that she flipped right out of the cart and landed on quite hard, face first, on the floor. She seemed fine at first, but then it became clear she was not fine at all. She was incredibly pale and wasn't moving her left arm at all. After frantically calling Matt and our pediatrician, we embarked on our first, of what are sure to be many, trip to the emergency room. I have no idea how much I spent at Target and Annie had a huge tantrum over fruit snacks as I was dragging her out of the store, but I was so scared Kate did some serious damage. Luckily for her, her dad is a pretty awesome guy and doctor who managed to find some friends to see her immediately.
She didn't really appreciate the star treatment at the time. Maybe she was mad they cut off her shirt, but mostly she was in pain and very scared. (So, yes, I took a picture. As if this incident itself doesn't prove what a stellar mom I am.)
It was determined rather quickly that her hard little head was just fine, but she had a level two fracture of her humerus, just above the elbow. It was painful and very sad, and it required her to have surgery under general anesthetic to place two pins to fix the fracture. We also earned a night at the hospital. While Mott is a great place to be, we were happy to leave the next day with Kate in her cute little cast and sling. (Those are the slings they give out in that size, I swear.) And her promise to never scare Mommy again. :)
Obviously, she wasn't really in the mood to have her picture taken, but here she is in all her wounded glory. (The pictures from my phone right after her surgery were really dark, so are pretty much worthless for the blog. Plus, she was super sad and pathetic, so I'll spare you.)

Poor Kate!! She's such a trooper though!
Not only does she have a cast but she is forced to have that terrible sling on her arm too?! Evan Turner says hi!
